About 1st Class Lawn Care

Lawn Mowing & Specialist Lawn Care in Toowoomba

1st Class Lawn Care is a locally owned Toowoomba lawn care business specialising in professional regular lawn mowing and specialist lawn care services.

Since starting in Toowoomba in 2020, our business has grown and changed considerably, but lawns have always been at the centre of what we do.

Today, we provide everything from regular scheduled lawn mowing and premium lawn maintenance through to cylinder mowing, lawn renovations, dethatching and vertimowing, core aeration, topdressing, lawn levelling, turf laying, lawn restoration, fertilising, weed treatments, lawn grub treatments and tailored lawn care programs.

As the business has grown, our direction has actually become more focused rather than broader.

We specialise in lawns.

We're not trying to be a general gardening, landscaping or handyman business. We want our equipment, experience, training and services focused on one thing — helping create better lawns and maintaining them properly.

That philosophy is summed up in our mission.

Our Mission

We create and maintain premium lawns. WE DON'T just cut grass.

This isn't simply a slogan. It's the principle behind the direction of 1st Class Lawn Care and what we want our business to be known for throughout Toowoomba.

There are two equally important parts to it.

We CREATE Premium Lawns

Sometimes a lawn needs much more than regular mowing.

It may be heavily thatched, compacted, uneven, struggling with weeds or lawn grubs, lacking nutrients, poorly established or simply not performing the way it should.

Creating a better lawn might involve lawn renovation, dethatching, core aeration, topdressing, lawn levelling, turf laying, fertilising, weed control, lawn restoration or a combination of different treatments.

Sometimes we're improving an established lawn. Sometimes we're restoring a lawn that's struggling. And sometimes the best solution is to start again with properly prepared and laid turf.

Whatever the starting point, the objective is to improve the lawn itself — not simply make it look better for a few days after it has been mowed.

We MAINTAIN Premium Lawns

Creating or improving a great lawn is only half the story.

It then needs to be maintained.

That's why professional regular lawn mowing remains one of the most important parts of 1st Class Lawn Care.

We provide scheduled lawn mowing throughout Toowoomba for homeowners who value reliability, consistency and a professionally presented property.

Depending on the lawn, property and desired finish, we use different professional mowing equipment and techniques, including rotary, stand-on and cylinder mowing.

The equipment may change from lawn to lawn, but the principle doesn't.

We want to maintain the lawn properly — not simply make the grass shorter.

Professional Lawn Mowing Toowoomba

Regular lawn mowing has been at the heart of 1st Class Lawn Care since the business began.

We provide professional lawn mowing in Toowoomba for residential customers looking for reliable, scheduled lawn maintenance rather than constantly having to find someone when the grass gets too long.

Regular servicing allows our crews to become familiar with each property and maintain a more consistent result. We learn the lawn, the access, the obstacles, the appropriate equipment and the standard the customer expects.

It also gives us an opportunity to see how a lawn changes throughout the year and identify when something may need attention beyond regular mowing.

Professional lawn mowing involves more than simply running a mower over the grass.

Mowing frequency, cutting height, equipment selection, edging, trimming and how the property is left at the end of the service all contribute to the finished result.

For some customers, the goal is straightforward — a neat, healthy and reliably maintained residential lawn.

For others, lawn presentation is a much bigger priority and mowing forms part of a broader lawn

care program.

We cater for both.

Our goal is to continue growing our regular lawn mowing service throughout Toowoomba while building efficient local mowing routes and professional crews capable of delivering a consistent standard from one visit to the next.

Regular lawn mowing isn't something we're moving away from as our specialist services grow. It's one of the foundations of our business.

More Than Just Mowing

As 1st Class Lawn Care developed, we became increasingly interested in what was happening underneath the mower.

We regularly encountered lawns that were being mowed but weren't actually improving.

Some were badly compacted. Some had excessive thatch. Others were uneven, nutrient deficient, struggling with weeds or lawn grubs, or simply weren't responding despite their owners doing everything they thought they should be doing.

Mowing could make those lawns look tidier, but it couldn't necessarily solve the underlying problem.

That led us further into specialist lawn care.

Instead of simply asking:

“How do we mow this lawn?”

we began asking:

“Why isn't this lawn performing better, and what can we do to improve it?”

That question has had a major influence on the direction of 1st Class Lawn Care.

Specialist Lawn Care Toowoomba

Our specialist lawn care services are designed to improve the health, appearance and performance of lawns throughout Toowoomba.

Importantly, we don't believe every lawn needs every service.

Different lawns have different problems, and the right solution depends on the condition of the turf, soil, thatch levels, compaction, weeds, pests, sunlight, water and what the owner ultimately wants to achieve.

Lawn Renovations

A lawn renovation can completely change the appearance and performance of an established lawn.

Depending on what the lawn needs, a renovation may involve scalping, dethatching, core aeration, topdressing, levelling, fertilising and other treatments.

Over the past several years, we've completed more than 150 lawn renovations, ranging from residential lawn improvements to larger and more specialised projects, such as the dethatching of the Toowoomba Croquet Club in 2025, core aeration of The Dairy Ravensbourne in 2026 and the upcoming Greens renovations at Eustondale Golf Club in 2026.

Lawn Dethatching & Vertimowing

Excessive thatch can affect how water, air and nutrients move through the lawn and can leave turf feeling soft or spongy.

Professional dethatching or vertimowing removes excessive material and can form an important part of restoring the density and performance of an established lawn.

Core Aeration

Compacted soil can restrict root development and affect the movement of water, air and nutrients into the root zone.

Core aeration physically removes small cores from the soil to help relieve compaction and improve conditions beneath the turf.

Topdressing & Lawn Levelling

An uneven lawn can affect both its appearance and how well it can be maintained.

Topdressing and lawn levelling can be used to improve the surface, correct minor unevenness and help create a better mowing finish as the lawn recovers and grows through.

Turf Laying

Sometimes improving the existing lawn isn't the most practical solution.

We provide turf preparation and laying for customers wanting to establish a new lawn or replace an existing lawn that is beyond reasonable restoration.

Correct preparation is just as important as the turf itself, which is why we look at the entire process rather than simply rolling turf over an existing problem.

Lawn Restoration

Not every struggling lawn requires a complete renovation or replacement.

Lawn restoration may involve combining several different techniques to gradually improve an existing lawn while retaining as much healthy turf as possible.

Fertilising & Lawn Treatments

Lawns need appropriate nutrition and protection as well as mowing.

We provide liquid and granular fertilising, pre and post-emergent weed treatments and lawn grub prevention and treatments as part of our broader lawn care services.

Tailored Lawn Care Programs

No two lawns are exactly the same.

Our tailored lawn care programs allow us to develop an ongoing approach based on the individual lawn rather than applying exactly the same products and treatments to every property.

Together, these services allow us to do something mowing alone can't:

improve the lawn underneath the mower.

Lawn Renovation Experience in Toowoomba

Lawn renovations have become an important part of our specialist lawn care work.

We've completed more than 150 lawn renovations over the past several years, working on lawns throughout areas including Middle Ridge, Rangeville, Centenary Heights, Kearneys Spring, East Toowoomba, Mount Lofty and other parts of Toowoomba.

Every renovation is different.

One lawn may have a significant thatch problem. Another may be heavily compacted. Another may need levelling and topdressing. Some require several different processes working together.

This experience has reinforced something we strongly believe:

There isn't one treatment that fixes every lawn.

We look at the condition of the lawn, what appears to be limiting it and what the owner wants to achieve before deciding on the appropriate approach.

Understanding Toowoomba Lawns

Being a local Toowoomba lawn care business gives us first-hand experience with the conditions local lawns face throughout the year.

Toowoomba has distinct seasonal changes, and a lawn that performs strongly during the warmer growing months can behave very differently through Winter.

Temperature, rainfall, soil type, compaction, turf variety, sunlight, irrigation, weeds, pests and how the lawn has previously been maintained can all influence its performance.

Even two lawns in the same suburb can require completely different approaches.

That's why we don't believe there is one magic product, treatment, mowing height or schedule that works for every lawn.

Our approach is to look at the lawn in front of us and work from there.

We're also continually learning.

Products change. Equipment improves. Techniques develop. And the more lawns we work on, the more experience we gain.

Continuing to improve our knowledge is an important part of continuing to improve 1st Class Lawn Care.

Meet the People Behind 1st Class Lawn Care

We're proud of our equipment and the services we've developed, but ultimately 1st Class Lawn Care is a local business run by real people.

Our team works across regular residential lawn mowing, lawn maintenance and specialist lawn care projects throughout Toowoomba, supported by the people behind the scenes who keep the business organised and growing.

As the business develops, having the right people behind it is just as important as having the right equipment.

Nigel Gilberd — Owner

Nigel started 1st Class Lawn Care in Toowoomba in 2020.

What began primarily as a lawn mowing business has developed considerably as Nigel's interest in the lawns themselves has grown.

Over time, the question became less about simply getting a property mowed and more about understanding how to make the lawn better.

That interest led to greater investment in professional mowing equipment, lawn renovation machinery and specialist lawn care services, along with continually developing the knowledge required to get better results from Toowoomba lawns.

Nigel remains actively involved in the day-to-day operation and direction of 1st Class Lawn Care, working alongside the team and continuing to develop both the regular lawn mowing and specialist lawn care sides of the business.

He has a particular interest in the processes that can transform an ordinary or struggling lawn — including dethatching, core aeration, topdressing, levelling and complete lawn renovations.

At the same time, professional regular lawn mowing remains a major priority.

Nigel's long-term goal is for 1st Class Lawn Care to become the Toowoomba business people think of when they want their lawn properly looked after.

Not simply somewhere to call when the grass gets long, but a business capable of creating, improving, protecting and maintaining the lawn over the long term.

Nigel holds current ChemCERT AQF 3 accreditation, including competency in the safe transport and storage of chemicals and the preparation and application of chemicals to control pests, weeds and diseases. This training supports the safe and responsible lawn treatments we provide, including weed control and other specialist lawn care applications. ChemCERT Accreditation No. PACHE92546, current until September 2030.

For added customer confidence, 1st Class Lawn Care owner Nigel holds a current National Police Check—reference number 14031286PC—providing trusted, professional lawn care services throughout Toowoomba.

Mason — Lawn Care Team

Mason has been part of 1st Class Lawn Care since 2024 and has a genuine passion for the lawn care industry.

While some kids grow up wanting to be firefighters or police officers, Mason grew up pushing around a plastic lawn mower and using sticks as whipper snippers. Lawn care, it seems, was always going to be somewhere in his future.

After moving back to the Toowoomba region in 2024, Mason returned to an industry he has always enjoyed and joined the 1st Class Lawn Care team.

Today, Mason works across our regular lawn mowing and specialist lawn care services, and his enthusiasm for the job shows in the lawns he maintains and the attention he gives to his work.

As we continue to grow our professional mowing crews and specialist lawn care services throughout Toowoomba, having people on the team who genuinely enjoy what they do is incredibly important.

For Mason, working with lawns isn't simply a job — it's something he's been practising since his first plastic mower.

Aaron — Lawn Care Team

Aaron joined 1st Class Lawn Care in 2024, bringing previous residential lawn mowing experience from his time living and working in Roma, Queensland.

After moving back to the Toowoomba region to be closer to family, Aaron joined our team and brought that previous hands-on mowing experience with him.

Residential lawn mowing requires a different approach from simply maintaining large open grassed areas. Every property has different access, edges, obstacles, lawn conditions and customer expectations, and Aaron's previous experience gave him a good understanding of those practical day-to-day requirements.

Since joining 1st Class Lawn Care, Aaron has become an important part of our regular mowing operations and works across residential lawn mowing and lawn care throughout Toowoomba.

He understands that the finished result isn't just about the mower. Edging, trimming, attention to the property and leaving the area tidy all form part of delivering a professional lawn mowing service.

As we continue to expand our scheduled mowing routes, experienced residential mowing operators like Aaron will play an important role in maintaining the consistency we expect as the business grows.

Matt — Lawn Care Team

Matt joined 1st Class Lawn Care in 2025, bringing with him considerable previous experience in professional grass maintenance from his time working in grass control with Noosa Council.

His previous work gave him extensive practical experience maintaining grassed areas and working with professional equipment in an environment where efficiency, consistency and safe work practices were important.

That background has transferred naturally into his role with 1st Class Lawn Care.

Since joining the team, Matt has worked across our regular lawn mowing and lawn care services throughout Toowoomba, helping maintain residential properties to the standard our customers expect.

His previous experience also brings another perspective to our team. While residential lawns are very different from council grass maintenance, understanding equipment, grass growth and efficient maintenance provides a strong foundation to build on.

Matt's experience fits particularly well with the direction we're taking the business as we continue to develop professional mowing crews alongside our growing specialist lawn care services.

For us, having people with genuine grass maintenance experience matters. Our crews aren't there simply to get a mower on and off the trailer — they're responsible for the standard customers associate with 1st Class Lawn Care.

Niamh — Accounts & Marketing

While much of the visible work at 1st Class Lawn Care happens out on lawns throughout Toowoomba, there's plenty happening behind the scenes to keep the business running.

Niamh looks after Accounts and Marketing for 1st Class Lawn Care, supporting both the day-to-day administration of the business and the way we communicate what we do to our customers and the wider Toowoomba community.

On the accounts side, Niamh helps keep the administration behind a growing lawn care business organised.

On the marketing side, she helps showcase the work being completed by the team — from our regular lawn mowing and beautifully maintained properties through to lawn renovations, turf transformations, dethatching, core aeration and other specialist projects.

As 1st Class Lawn Care has grown, this role has become increasingly important.

A successful lawn care business isn't only about doing good work. Customers need to understand the services available, see examples of what we actually do and be able to find reliable information when they're looking for professional lawn mowing or specialist lawn care in Toowoomba.

Niamh helps connect the work happening out in the field with that side of the business, while helping keep things organised behind the scenes.

Together, the field team and the people behind the scenes allow 1st Class Lawn Care to continue growing without losing sight of the standard we're trying to achieve.

Our Lawn Mowing Crews

Our regular lawn mowing crews maintain residential lawns across Toowoomba on scheduled service runs.

Building our mowing work into organised local routes is an important part of how we're growing the business.

Rather than having crews spend large amounts of the day driving from one side of the region to another, our goal is to develop strong groups of regular customers within the Toowoomba suburbs we service.

That makes our operation more efficient, but it also has another important advantage.

Our crews get to know the lawns.

They become familiar with the property, access, obstacles, equipment required and expected finish.

That familiarity helps us deliver a more consistent service over time.

As 1st Class Lawn Care grows, we plan to continue building additional professional mowing crews and strengthening our regular lawn mowing routes throughout Toowoomba.

Professional Equipment for Professional Lawn Care

As our services have developed, we've continued investing in professional lawn care equipment.

Different lawns require different tools.

Our equipment allows us to provide professional residential mowing using different mowing systems as well as specialist services including cylinder mowing, dethatching, core aeration, topdressing and complete lawn renovations.

Having access to specialist equipment means we're able to address problems that can't be solved with a standard mower alone.

But buying a machine doesn't automatically make someone a lawn specialist.

Understanding when to use it, why you're using it and what you're trying to achieve is equally important.

That's why experience and continued learning remain a major part of the direction of the business.

Where We Work

1st Class Lawn Care provides regular lawn mowing and specialist lawn care throughout Toowoomba, Queensland.

Our regular mowing routes include properties across areas such as East Toowoomba, Middle Ridge, Rangeville, Centenary Heights, Kearneys Spring, Mount Lofty and Prince Henry Heights, along with other suitable Toowoomba suburbs.

For specialist projects such as lawn renovations, dethatching, core aeration, lawn levelling, restoration and turf laying, we also service suitable properties throughout the broader Toowoomba area.

Building strong local service areas is important to us.

Rather than trying to cover enormous distances, our goal is to develop efficient routes that allow our crews to spend more time maintaining lawns and less time travelling between them.

Why We Specialise in Lawns

There are businesses that provide lawn mowing as one service among gardening, landscaping, hedging, rubbish removal and general property maintenance.

That's not where we're taking 1st Class Lawn Care.

Our speciality is lawns.

We want our equipment, knowledge, team and services to revolve around creating and maintaining them.

That means we can work with a lawn through different stages.

We can help create a lawn through turf laying or restoration.

We can improve it through renovation, dethatching, core aeration, topdressing and levelling.

We can help protect it through fertilising, weed management and lawn treatments.

And importantly, we can maintain it through professional regular lawn mowing and ongoing lawn care.

That relationship is much broader than simply turning up when the grass gets long.

Our Approach to Lawn Care

We don't believe every customer needs every service we provide.

Some lawns simply need good, reliable regular mowing.

Others may need some help with nutrition, weeds or lawn grubs.

Some will benefit from core aeration or dethatching.

And occasionally, a lawn requires a much more substantial renovation, restoration or complete replacement.

Part of professional lawn care is knowing the difference.

Where possible, we want our customers to understand what we're recommending and why we're recommending it.

The objective isn't to sell every lawn care service to every customer.

It's to work towards the best practical result for that particular lawn.

Where 1st Class Lawn Care Is Heading

We're proud of how 1st Class Lawn Care has developed since 2020, but we're still building the business we ultimately want it to become.

Our future has two major areas of focus.

The first is professional regular lawn mowing and lawn maintenance.

We want to continue growing our customer base, developing our team and building efficient mowing routes throughout Toowoomba so more homeowners have access to reliable, high-quality regular lawn maintenance.

The second is specialist lawn care.

That includes lawn renovations, cylinder mowing, dethatching, core aeration, turf laying, lawn levelling, lawn restoration, fertilising, weed treatments, lawn grub treatments and tailored lawn care programs.

These aren't competing parts of our business.

They support each other.

A lawn we renovate today may become a lawn we regularly maintain for years.

A lawn we've mowed for years may eventually benefit from aeration, dethatching, fertilising, levelling or renovation.

A new turf installation needs ongoing maintenance after it has established.

That's the relationship we want to develop with our customers and their lawns.

CREATE → IMPROVE → PROTECT → MAINTAIN

And when necessary, improve again.

What We Want to Be Known For

At the end of the day, 1st Class Lawn Care is a local Toowoomba lawn care business with a real team behind it.

We're continuing to learn.

We're continuing to invest in better equipment.

We're continuing to develop our team.

And we're continuing to improve the way we look after our customers' lawns.

Our aim is for 1st Class Lawn Care to become one of the names Toowoomba homeowners associate with professional lawn mowing, premium lawn maintenance and specialist lawn care.

We don't need to offer every outdoor service to achieve that.

We'd rather become very good at what we specialise in.

And that brings everything back to the mission that guides our business:

We create and maintain premium lawns. WE DON'T just cut grass.
