In 2025, 1st Class Lawn Care completed specialist turf dethatching across all three greens at Toowoomba Croquet Club on Lindsay Street, opposite Queens Park.
All three croquet greens were mechanically dethatched to loosen and remove accumulated organic material from within the established turf canopy.
Reducing excessive thatch can improve the movement of water, air and nutrients into the turf and support healthier, more consistent growth.
Accumulated thatch within the turf canopy was restricting clean growth and affecting the condition and performance of the croquet playing surface.
The work was completed systematically across the playing area to treat the established turf while protecting the underlying surface.
This project demonstrates our experience completing specialist turf work on established Toowoomba sporting and recreational surfaces.
In 2025, 1st Class Lawn Care completed specialist mechanical turf dethatching across all three established couch greens at Toowoomba Croquet Club on Lindsay Street, opposite Queens Park in Toowoomba, Queensland. We used two commercial dethatching machines: a Scott Bonnar 46 and a Predator LS460 scarifier. Both machines were configured with grooming reels featuring closely spaced blades approximately 10 mm apart. Each croquet green received three complete dethatching passes in different directions: East to West, North to South and then diagonally. The reels were set to reach the soil surface, allowing them to work thoroughly through accumulated thatch and organic material within the couch turf canopy without undertaking deeper scarification below the soil surface. This three-direction process provided more complete coverage than a single pass and treated the thatch from multiple angles across each sporting-turf surface.
The three-direction dethatching process released approximately six cubic metres of thatch, organic material and turf debris from the three couch greens at Toowoomba Croquet Club. The loosened material was collected using our 21-inch Bushranger 800SP commercial self-propelled mowers. Our heavier Walker high-vacuum mower and Hustler Super S stand-on mowers were deliberately excluded from the collection process because the sporting surfaces were soft and vulnerable to wheel ruts. The lighter Bushranger 800SP mowers gave our team greater control over machine weight and ground pressure while collecting the substantial volume of material removed from the turf canopy. This equipment selection protected the soft croquet surfaces while allowing the dethatching waste to be collected systematically across all three greens.
